Tomeka Caldwell Bumbry currently serves as the Chief of Staff to Prince George’s County Council Member Todd M. Turner, District 4.  Prior to joining Council Member Turner’s staff, Ms. Bumbry served eight years as the Chief of Staff to Former Prince George’s County Council Member Ingrid M. Turner. Prior to working for the Legislative Branch, Ms. Bumbry was the Executive Director of Jumpstart for Young Children, Inc., in Washington, D.C.; and the Director of the Clark Atlanta University Head Start program in Atlanta, GA.

Actively involved in community affairs, she is currently the Chair of the Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council where she has served on the Board for three terms; a 2009 graduate of Leadership Prince George’s, Inc.; and a graduate fellow of The University of Maryland’s Academy for Excellence in Local Government program. She served on the Board of Directors of the Ivy Community Charities of Prince George’s County, Inc., and a volunteer with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in Prince George’s County. For her over nine years of service has homeroom mom, she was awarded the St. Mary of the Assumption HAS, 2015 Hogan/Keplinger Award; the highest award presented to a parent for their involvement and commitment to the school’s mission.

Ms. Bumbry is a charter member of the National Harbor Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. She served two-terms (2012-2016) as president of the chapter and was awarded the chapter’s Distinguished Mother Award in 2016. During her time of leadership the National Harbor Chapter made its mark on Prince George’s County by hosting a Young Men’s Summit, the establishment of the National Harbor Chapter Scholarship Fund, and in partnership with Prince George’s County, a health symposium that sparked the discussion on the disparity of healthcare. In addition to serving as chapter president, she was a member of the National Legislative Committee (2015); Chair of the Eastern Regional Legislative Committee (2014-2015) and Sergeant-at-Arms (2013).  For her work in legislative advocacy, she was the recipient of the WE3 Women’s Legislative Conference, Community Servant Leadership Award.

She is an active Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In 1984, she was initiated into the Mu Alpha Chapter, where she served as President of her undergraduate chapter. For the past 12 years, she has served in the Iota Gamma Omega Chapter, Prince George’s County, Maryland.  In 1997, she was awarded the honor of Silver Star Soror at the North Atlantic Regional Conference for her 25 years of membership. 

Bumbry is a dynamic leader whose beautiful personality, tremendous faith and remarkable work ethic inspires mothers and young girls. She enjoys motivational speaking and planning events. Her compassion and creativity can be seen in her ministry assignments and civic engagements.  She earned her undergraduate degree from Troy University, Troy, Alabama and pursued advanced studies in Public Policy at Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA. 

Bumbry is the First Lady of Le Detroit Baptist Church (LDBC). As First Lady, she is the chair of the Deaconess Ministry, Director of the Christian Women Fellowship Ministry, and chair of the Ruby E. Davis Educational Scholarship Fund Committee.  In 2015, she was the recipient of the Universal Center for Development, Church Girls Rock Award.

She is the honored wife of Reverend Wayne K. Bumbry, Pastor of Le Detroit Baptist Church, and they are the proud parents of one son, Wayne Christopher Bumbry. Wayne is the teen president of the National Harbor Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and a senior at Bishop McNamara High School, Forestville, MD.
